Outreach Activities
As part of Georgetown’s CyberFellows program, we obtained supplemental funding from the National Science Foundation to support three outreach activities:
- We established a STEM track for students in Georgetown’s Summer College Immersion Program (SCIP). SCIP is a three-week college preparation program designed for rising high school seniors from the Cristo Rey Network and KIPP Foundation school systems. Our STEM track includes instruction on computer programming, computer security, and counseling about careers in computer science, computer security, and working in the public sector.
- We support computer science mentoring to the Community Scholars Program‘s Fourth Hour Study Group. This project pairs first-year and sophomore students with successful upper-class Community Scholars, who help with course material, navigating college, and finding internships and jobs.
- In collaboration with the Regents STEM Scholars Program, we developed the Bridge Module “Bridge to Computer Science” that is available to all students joining the computer science program to help provide basic skills to for them to succeed in the early computer science classes.
